Who we are

The Carry-On Kids (thecarryonkids.com) is a family travel blog run by Alena Varkockova. You can contact us at varkockova.a@gmail.com.

What data we collect and why

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our site — which pages are visited, how long people stay, and where traffic comes from. This data is anonymised and aggregated; we cannot identify you personally through it. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish repeat visits. You can opt out at any time via the cookie banner or by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one, the third-party site (e.g. GetYourGuide, Booking.com) may set their own cookies to track whether a purchase is made. We do not receive or store any personal data as part of this process — it is handled entirely by the third party. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.

Data you send us voluntarily

If you email us, we will use your email address only to reply to your message. We do not add you to any mailing list without your explicit consent.

Cookies

We use two categories of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary: a single cookie that stores your cookie consent decision. This is set without consent as it is required for the site to respect your preferences.
  • Analytics (optional): Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*), set only if you accept analytics cookies.

You can change your consent decision at any time by clearing your browser cookies and reloading the page.

Third-party services

We do not sell your data to any third party.

Data retention

Analytics data is retained in Google Analytics for 14 months (the minimum configurable period). We do not maintain our own database of visitor information.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal)
  • Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at varkockova.a@gmail.com.

Children's privacy

This site is written for parents. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
